Ten years ago, Dr Mel Mehmet had an idea; he believed he would be able to encourage commuters to better embrace sustainable transport options if they were made more efficient, affordable and accessible. Today he runs The Queen’s Award winning easitNETWORK, representing over 300 major employers and one million commuters.
The success of easitNETWORK has been due to the plethora of sustainable transport initiatives available to its members – discounted peak time rail travel, exclusive savings on electric vehicles, travel planning – to implementing rotational staff parking systems! By facilitating collaboration amongst a range of companies easitNETWORK helps businesses work together to develop transport solutions which in turn will reduce the environmental impact of commuter journeys and promote healthier, more active life styles.
Dr Mel Mehmet said, “We have a better chance of engaging with staff if we can provide something for everyone – whether it’s staff working irregular hours or restricted staff parking; we listen to our member’s needs and then look to deliver solutions!”
Winning The Queen’s Award was key to the growth and development of easitNETWORK – with little marketing budget, the ability to be able to use The Queen’s Award emblem was a significant accreditation to our sustainable work, with the Awards Office being impressed with ‘how a team of just four employees have managed to deliver such a strong performance in terms of promoting sustainable transport and on a far greater scale than would normally be expected.’
That team of four has now grown to a team of nine with eleven easitNETWORK’s delivering transport solutions to major employers across the South East.
