After receiving the award for Enterprise in Innovation in 2012, Pearson Engineering is honoured to have been awarded a second Queen’s Award, on this occasion for Enterprise in International Trade.
Pearson Engineering, the defence engineering company of the Reece Group, provides counter-IED, counter-mine, combat earth moving and assault bridging vehicle attachments to the world’s armed forces.
In a four year period, the company has increased turnover by 380%, from £43m, to £207m, with exports accounting for over 98% of sales.
This has been achieved by adopting a philosophy of significant investment in research and development to anticipate customer requirements and respond quickly to them. The company works closely with both the end-user and host vehicle manufacturer to ensure that products can be tailored quickly to specific vehicle and operational requirements.
The development of the Self Protection Adaptive Roller Kit (SPARK) system is an example of how this philosophy has worked to the company’s advantage. A major export contract for the system, developed in anticipation of the requirement to detonate IED’s ahead of the host vehicle, has accounted for more than 90% of export sales and
has saved many lives in operation in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Chairman of Pearson Engineering, John Reece said, “We are very pleased to win The Queen’s Award for the second successive year. This recognises many years of export efforts by Pearson Engineering; indeed many of our products are class leaders and in use globally.
We aim to continue expanding our worldwide niche business with an ever broadening range of innovative engineering products. We are now investing in the development of new mine clearance systems as well as a range of mobile bridge laying equipment that is faster to deploy, more flexible and more reliable than that currently available in the market place.
“I would like to thank all our employees for helping us achieve this Queen’s Award, without top quality people we wouldn’t be where we are today.”
