Established in 1998, Oakland International is a family run multi-temperature supply chain specialist, with a focus for delivering sustainable growth through partnerships, collaboration and innovation.
Oakland has depots and facilities in the UK, Ireland and an overseas partner in Spain, with customers in 11 countries, providing brokerage, contract packing, storage, picking and food distribution for ambient, chilled and frozen food for the retail, convenience, discount, wholesale and food service markets.
Viewed as a one-stop supply chain solution partner, supporting UK customers and overseas customers entering the UK market, offering advice, support and a range of value added services.
Oakland’s specialist Distress Load Management service was introduced, whereby food losses are minimised for customers, loss adjusters and hauliers on distressed loads, to address the increasing number of international loads contaminated during transit. Prior to this solution for compromised loads, producers and brand owners were commonly throwing away complete consignments of stock even if only one pallet was compromised.
Reducing wastage by up to 90%, nothing is sent to landfill, with fully inspected products, certified as safe to enter the food supply chain, forwarded on to the original delivery destination. To date we have recovered around 1,800 tonnes of food, with all remaining food-waste forwarded to anaerobic digestion plant centres and used for renewable energy.
Supporting our small overseas producers, many of which are small family businesses, we offer the logistical knowhow, and as innovators in international trade, we also champion sustainability throughout our value added service offer. Oakland International today is one of the most sustainable companies in the SME food distribution sector.
Recognised as a Top 100 Local Employer, Oakland International has been identified as among the UK’s 100 fastest growing private companies and ranked in the London Stock Exchange report as being in the Top 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain (2016). To receive two Queen’s Awards is positive endorsement of the great team we have operating within our business models here in the UK and abroad.
