Celebrating its third Queen’s Award for Enterprise, FilmLight is the industry leader in colour correction and colour management technology used in the making of motion pictures, TV programming and commercials. In simple terms, our products determine technically and aesthetically exactly how a picture looks on a cinema screen or the television in your home.

A self-funded start-up based in the heart of Soho, FilmLight was formed by three individuals with many years of experience at the cutting edge of visual effects technology. Seeing a need for specialist products in this rapidly changing industry, the founders saw an opportunity to use their experience to design, create and sell such products themselves.
FilmLight’s products have changed the way motion pictures, television shows, commercials and other media are produced. Used by postproduction facilities, broadcasters and major film studios around the world including the BBC, Warner Bros., Sony, Moving Picture Company and Aardman Animation, they have been used in the production and re-mastering of hundreds of films, including The Godfather, The King’s Speech, Hugo and each of the films in the Harry Potter series, as well as countless television programmes and commercials.
In 2010, ten members of our development team were honoured with four Academy Sci-Tech awards, recognising the contribution made to motion pictures by each of the company’s three main product lines: Northlight, Baselight and Truelight. This was the first time in the history of the ‘Technical Oscars’ that as many as four out of the fifteen awards went to the engineers of a single company.
Co-founder, Wolfgang Lempp, said, “We are extremely pleased to be honored with a Queen’s Award for the third time. Innovation is the driving force at FilmLight, and we have managed to bring together an outstanding team of talented people. It is a fantastic endorsement of our company philosophy, and an incentive for us to continue in our effort to shape the future of our industry.”
FilmLight has been in business for ten years. With a team of over 70 people and offices around the world including the USA, Singapore, Australia, India and Germany, the company has earned a raft of accolades including Queen’s Awards, Academy Sci-Tech Awards, and London’s Outstanding Exporter of the Year (2010).
