EV is the global market leader in downhole video applications for the oil and gas industry. Its video cameras are deployed in wells up to depths of 10,000m, temperatures of 175°C and pressures of 15,000psi to record images within the well.
EV invests heavily in R&D to develop video technology for these extreme applications, manufacturing the equipment in Norfolk before shipping it to locations around the world. EV engineers then run the cameras on land and offshore, producing video images which allow oil and gas operators to correctly diagnose problems in their wells.
Four years ago, EV was solely UK-based with 15 employees working from its Norwich office.  International expansion started with entry into the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, which was soon followed by Norway and USA.  Today it has bases in 12 countries from Australia to Alaska, and employs more than a hundred personnel.
Its specialist team provide downhole video services to over 300 customers worldwide from major operators, including Shell, BP and Total as well as smaller independent oil companies in Oklahoma, USA.  During this period its revenue increased by a factor of twenty, 80% of which was generated internationally using technology designed and built at its Technology Centre in Norwich.
Francis Neill, EV chief executive, said: “Receiving The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade is a great honour for us. The award will undoubtedly aid our continued expansion into key regions. In the last few months we have established bases in Nigeria, Indonesia and Iraq as well as continuing to grow our presence in established counties.  In the year ahead we plan to expand further in the Middle East and develop our business in Latin America.
“We will continue to push boundaries with innovative technology, faster transmissions, higher temperatures and high quality images. The next four years look as exciting and challenging as the last four. The entire team at EV has worked extremely hard to get the company to where it is today and the award is in recognition of that effort”.
