Balmoral Offshore Engineering has achieved The Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade, three times; 2010, 2012 and 2015.
Established in 2006, Balmoral Offshore Engineering provides technology-led buoyancy, insulation and elastomer products for the global subsea and deepwater oil and gas industry. Export sales account for approximately 80% of turnover- more than double the industry average.
These products are highly specialised and are used in the deepest and harshest oilfield environments in the world. Products include rigid and dynamic riser buoyancy, ROV/AUV and subsurface buoyancy, elastomer cable protectors, bend restrictors, stiffeners, clamps and riser protection guards.
The Aberdeen-based company also operates what is believed to be Europe’s most comprehensive hyperbaric facility to test a variety of products from small systems through to the largest subsea buoyancy modules.
Balmoral has seen considerable success as a result of its strategic development of the deepwater markets offshore West Africa, the Gulf of Mexico, Asia Pacific and Brazil.
Along with continuously increasing profits, the company has doubled its workforce over the last three years and is committed to supporting its local community by contributing extensively through its numerous CSR activities.
Led by Chairman And Managing Director, James Milne CBE, Balmoral Group employs approximately 600 people.
Mr Milne said: “To receive a Queen’s Award is enormously satisfying; to be successful three times is exceptional. These honours recognise the huge effort everyone involved at Balmoral Offshore Engineering has made since 2006 as we compete with companies from all around the world.
“We are excited at the prospect of our new manufacturing facility in Brazil coming on stream in the third quarter of 2015 which will help us develop the South American market considerably.
“I believe Balmoral has a name for consistently delivering and we are very customer friendly: we work hard and are good at what we do. We know there is continuous pressure to do better, and we seek to fulfil. There are a lot of companies who do well, but never improve from there.
“Balmoral is a very exciting and fast moving company to work for. You have to know your market and your customers and you have to make sure they know you. It is important to realise that we are a private company and that we do not require shareholder approval for research and development or the introduction of new technology.
“We have an outstanding engineering team that is always working on something new and this is fundamental to our business. We make huge investments in research and materials development, and in making sure that there is something behind the brand. Many people say that we have a fantastic brand, but you have to earn that and you have to look into what goes into creating such a strong and sustainable reputation.
“The differentiators between us and our competitors are innovation, technical expertise and manufacturing efficiency – as well as having a comprehensive product portfolio. We also listen very carefully to our customers and maintain open communication channels at all times.”
