Babcock LGE Process, part of the FTSE 100 Babcock International Group, is honoured to receive The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation, in recognition of its ground-breaking work in adapting standard compression-based refrigeration technology to deliver a more efficient and cost effective gas transportation method.

With drive and ambition at its very heart, Babcock’s liquid gas engineering capability has gone from strength to strength over recent years – a fact proudly underpinned by it adding a second Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade in this year’s accolades.

Focusing on meeting existing and future customer needs the company has invested in the development of a Vent Gas Cooler (VGC™) system that allows difficult to condense gases to be more safely stored and efficiently handled.

The development of the VGC™ technology has set Babcock apart from its competitors. Offering multi-functional enhancement to the traditional systems employed on gas tankers used to transport cargoes such as LPG, ammonia and petrochemical gases, it provides significant advantages, offering increased capacity and efficiency at lower capital and operating cost.

The technology, with patents granted in a number of overseas territories, including China, also minimises hydrocarbon emissions to the environment during loading and change operations. With extensive experience and first class capabilities, Babcock is keen to continue to push the business onto the next level and to carry on exporting its expertise and patented technology to ship owners across the world, including the Vent Gas Cooler (VGC™) system, SuperCooler™ and FGSV0™ technology, which provides a true ‘zero-emissions’ solution for liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker supply vessels.
